WARNER – Connors State’s 6-8 sophomore forward Willie Atwood from Memphis, Tenn., has been named the Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference and Region II Player of the Year by a vote of league and region coaches.
Atwood is the second leading OCAC and Region II scorer with a 21.0 average. He has drained 589 points this season, draining 165-of-287 field goal attempts for a 57.5 percent. At the free throw line he has drained 256-of-332 attempts for 77.1 percent. Entering the Region II Tournament on Thursday, Atwood has scored 919 points during his two seasons at Connors State.
The sophomore has averaged 9.0 rebounds per game, pulling down 251 boards. Atwood has recorded 10 double-doubles this season. Atwood’s top scoring performance came against Independence Community College on the road when he scored 49 points.
