Cowboys pull away late

ENID – Connors State broke open a tight ball game in the seventh and eighth innings, scoring four and seven runs respectively en route to a 13-1 victory over Northern Oklahoma-Enid Monday night on the Jets home field.

The Cowboys improved to 31-3 for the season and pounded out 14 base hits against the Jets, which included three home runs –  one each by Yariel Gonzalez, his fourth, Christian Perez, his fourth and Phil Diedrick, his third.

Freshman Zayne Dougan (3-0) went six innings, allowing one hit and struck out four in picking up the victory.

Christian Perez broke a 1-1 deadlock in the fifth inning with a solo home run. It was one of three base hits he had on the night. Gonzalez led the hitting attack with four hits and Diedrick had three. Hunter Spencer also had three hits in the win.
