OSSAA appoints new hoops chief

Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association on Wednesday announced the hiring of David Glover as an assistant director in charge of basketball (classes B-4A), cross country, golf and tennis.

The Woodward native is a Northwestern Oklahoma grad who lives in Okarche and is the brother of Fort Gibson superintendent Derald Glover.

66ers open playoffs with win

TULSA — The Tulsa 66ers opened the postseason with a 118-99 win over the Canton Charge on Wednesday night inside the SpiritBank Event Center behind Jeremy Lamb’s 24 points, four rebounds and two assists. Fellow Oklahoma City Thunder assignees Perry Jones and DeAndre Liggins scored eight points each.

With the win, Tulsa takes a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three first round. The series now shifts to Canton with Game 2 tipping off at 6:30 p.m. Friday on CBS Sports Network. If a third game is necessary, it’s set for 2 p.m. Sunday in Ohio.

Three Sooners on top player list

Oklahoma’s top-ranked softball team has senior pitchers Keilani Ricketts and Michelle Gasciogne and infielder Lauren Chamberlain among the 25 finalists for the 2013 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year, it was announced Wednesday.

NSU golfer honored by MIAA

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kelsey Kirkpatrick was named the MIAA Women’s Golf Athlere of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.

The senior member of the Northeastern State women’s golf team was honored after leading the RiverHawks to a third-place effort April 1-2 at the Grand Canyon Invitational.

The tournament featured two top-10 teams and nine squads that are currently ranked or receiving votes in the WGCA national polls.

Kirkpatrick tied for eighth after shooting a final-round 73, which was the lowest round of the day. For the tournament, she shot an 11-over-par 155 (82-73) to post her 13th career top-10 performance.

NSU is set to return to action April 13-14 at the Augustana Invitational in Sioux Falls, S.D.
