Sequoyah boys, Keys girls qualify for state

— HENRYETTA – Sequoyah’s boys and Keys’ girls won team championships at the Class 3A high school regional cross country meet at Henryetta High School on Saturday, qualifying for next week’s state meet.

The Indians finished with 39 points, while the Lady Cougars had 49.

Terrance Nofire was the Indians’ top finisher in second place with a time of 16 minutes and 59 seconds on the 5,000-meter course.

The other finishers and their places include Cayden Salazar in fourth (18:09), Jordan Galvan in fifth (18:37), Snow Eagle in 12th (19:57) and Payton Stilwell in 16th (20:15).

Eufaula’s Cole Montgomery finished fourth overall at 17:45 to earn a state meet berth from a non-qualifying team.

In the 3A girls race, Ali Andrews of Keys finished second overall with her time of 12:52 on the two-mile layout.

Other Lady Cougars finishers included Mylee Hewitt in seventh (13:41), McKenzie Garner in ninth (13;52), Breanna Scott in 13th (14:15) and Sierra Cox in 18th (14:31).

Sequoyah’s girls finished fourth with 94 points to qualify for state. Their runners and places include Kayla Davis 12th (14:13), Kelsey Linch 13th (14:14), Taylor Henry 21st (14:52), Makayla Pritchett 22nd (14:55), Macey Twoshields 25th (15:07) and Lauren Henson 26th (15:10).

The top five teams and top five finishers from non-qualifying teams advance to next Saturday’s state meet in Shawnee.

Elsewhere in the meet, other state qualifiers included Vian’s Mykala Rich in sixth (13:15) and Eufaula’s Madison Newton in seventh (13: 16).

In the Class 2A meet at Henryetta, Warner was second with 60 points  as Haworth won the team title with 57 points. Hulbert’s boys finished fourth overall with 93 points.

Becky Kauffman led the Lady Eagles with her fourth place overall finish at 13:41. Alliel Davis (14:34), Jessica Kauffman (14:34) and Bailey Short (14:35) finished 12th, 13th and 14th). Taylor Stout (15:11) and Melissa Gerrity (15:16) was 17th and 18th.

While the Class 3A-2A state meet is next week, the 4A-5A-6A regional meet will be at Oral Roberts University next Saturday.
