This is a big weekend for bull riding fans, both locally and nationally.
On Saturday you can be up close and personal with local bull riding at 2 p.m. at the Okay Round-Up Club. They will offer trophy buckles to the top bull rider and top steer rider. There will be trophies awarded to all mutton busters, riders age 8 and under. steer riding for 14 and under, then the open class. From Okay you can load up and head to the Checotah Round-Up Club. At 7:30 p.m. they will be holding a $2,500 added “Buck-em.” They will offer bull riding ($2,500 Added), junior bull riding ($300 Added), and mutton bustin ($100 added). This bull riding is sanctioned by the Regional Pro Bull Riders association and produced by Hanson Productions. Gate admission is $8 for adults, 4-12 at $4, and 3 and under get in free.
And of course, the Professional Bull Riders World Finals got underway this week. The finals air at 8 tonight on CBS Sports Network, Friday and Saturday nights it will be 8 p.m. on NBC Sports Network, then on Sunday the time will be 3 p.m. on NBC.
Looking ahead, the Coweta Round-Up Club will host a benefit barrel race Sunday, Nov. 4 with $500 in added money for 4-year-old Rheann Franklin. Rheann has brain cancer, has endured four surgeries and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. The race will be a 5D format, equal payout, $30 entry fee. Exhibitions will begin at noon and the jackpot at 3 p.m. There will be more added money if possible. Please come out and support little Rheann. On Saturday, Nov. 17, Connors State College will be hosting a Versatility Ranch Horse Show in the morning and a timed event rodeo in the evening. Registration is 7-9 a.m. with the show starting at 10 a.m. Books open at 5 p.m. and the rodeo begins at 6 p.m. There will be many awards in both the show and the rodeo. Events for the rodeo will include breakaway roping, calf roping, steer wrestling, barrel racing, and team roping (enter 3 times.) Sooner Barrel Racing Association will run at the Coweta Round-Up Club on Saturday afternoon, exhibitions at 2 p.m. and race at 4 p.m. For more information on Sooner, checkout their website at soonerbarrels.com. We can start looking forward to events at Hilltop over the next few months as Oliver Thompson now has leased the arena.
