Jarvis Christian 85, Bacone 81
The Warriors fell just short of turning the tables on a double-digit loss to the Bulldogs last month, but just couldn’t quite get over the hump.
With five players on the roster that were 6-5 or taller, the Bulldogs dominated the inside game, outscoring Bacone in the paint 50-32.
Spotting the Bulldogs the first seven points of the game, Bacone (7-22) struggled back to within a point at 12-11, but that would be as close as the Warriors would get. Every time Bacone would close the gap, the Bulldogs went on a brief run to open the lead back up and led at halftime 44-35.
Jarvis would get the lead back up to 10 points a couple of times in the second half and held their widest lead at 74-60 with 6:15 to play. Bacone stormed back with a 12-4 run to make it 78-72 with 2:34 left to play.
They were helped out by poor free-throw shooting by the Bulldogs, who missed the front end of three one-and-ones and were just 3-of-11 in the half. Kwame Bates hit a pair of charity tosses for the Warriors with 2:18 to play to make 79-74.
With 8.7 seconds to play, Alex Stanley canned a 3-pointer from deep in the corner to close the gap to three at 84-81 but time ran out on the Warrior comeback.
Bates and teammate Derrick Thomas were the leading scorers for Bacone with 18 points each while Stanley had a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards. Creed Flowers and Christian Smith were also in double figures for the Warriors with 10 points each.
Marcus O’Key with 20 points led the way for the Bulldogs.
