Muskogee Public Schools board approved Eufaula principal and athletic director Garrett Davis as the new athletic director for the district on Tuesday night.
The position was vacated in November, when long-time coach and athletic director Bobby Jefferson retired.
“My family and I couldn’t be more excited about the personal and professional opportunity the Muskogee Pubic Schools Board of Education has offered,” Davis said in a release by MPS.
“I’m very excited to go to work for Muskogee Public Schools, and we want to collaborate with all stakeholders to have a program at Muskogee that will be very focused on our student athletes.”
Superintendent Mike Garde said in a release that the district was looking for someone who not only understands athletics, but is also a strong administrator, detail-oriented, a strong communicator and highly organized.
“He (Davis) is going to be a real asset to our programs,” Garde said. “We were looking for a skilled administrator to take care of our programs with proven skills in people-building and organization, and this guy has it.”
Davis has worked for the last 10 years as both a principal and athletic director, and also has 10 years coaching experience in a variety of sports.
Davis holds a bachelors of science in education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, a masters of arts in educational leadership from Southern Nazarene University and is currently working on his doctorate of instructional leadership through Grand Canyon University and is expected to complete the degree in May 2015.
