FESTIVAL OF CHAMPIONS — At Muskogee High School’s Rougher Park, Randee O’Donnell’s double off the wall led to the go-ahead run on  Kirsten Chase’s single and two-base fielding error, then Class 6A No. 4 Tahlequah held off 3A No. 1 Tushka 5-4 on a bases-loaded flyout to Caitlin Chuculate in left field.

Tahlequah (21-4), which rallied from a 4-0 deficit to win, also beat Class A No. 6 Arapaho 12-2.

“Not to take away from who we played because they’re going to be competitve in their classes at the state tournament, but we didn’t play as well as we’re capable,” Tahlequah coach Matt Cloud, whose team was second in the Muskogee-Tahlequah Slug-Out last week.

“It was a hard day to hit with the wind blowing in but we made plays when we needed to.”

What hitting he had was spread out. Chase and Kortney Dry had two hits each against Tushka and against Araphano, Nikki Girdner was 4-for-4 and Bub Peters, Whitney Wright and O’Donnell each went 2-for-4.

“It’s somebody different and that’s the good thing about us. It’s never always someone at the top,” Cloud said. “We’re not peaking yet but we don’t want to just yet.”

Muskogee did not play Friday, having gone 3-0 on Thursday.

In other scores Friday, Muldrow beat Arapaho 11-2. Tushka beat Jenks 12-6. Red Oak beat Muldrow 8-7 and Jenks 4-3.
