Sooners stretch lead in Big 12 women’s golf

The Sooners posted a 4-over 292 on Saturday for a two-day total of 583 to stretch their lead to three strokes at the Big 12 Women’s Golf Championship at the UT Golf Club in Austin, Texas. Host Texas shot a 1-over 289 to move into second with a 586 heading into today’s final round.

Kansas (592) sits at third, Iowa State is fourth and Baylor (596) is in fifth. Oklahoma State (606), playing with four golfers due to injury, posted a 308 and is in eighth.

In the medalist’s race, Texas’ Natalie Karcher leads OU’s Chirapat Jao-Javanil (69-72) by one stroke after shooting a 3-under 69 for a two-day total of 140. Kaitlyn Rohrback (144) is four shots behind Karcher in a tied for fourth with Baylor’s Laura Lonardi while Oklahoma State’s Amy Ruengmateekun (145) is in a tie for sixth with Chonlada Chayanun of Iowa State.

On the men’s side at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas, Texas Tech leads Texas by one stroke, 866-867, heading into today’s final round with Iowa State (883), Oklahoma State and TCU (887) rounding out the top five. Oklahoma is seventh at 893.

Individually, Julien Brun of TCU leads Texas’ Beau Hossler by three strokes, 211-214, with Sam Dailey and Kramer Hickok of Texas tied for third at 215 and Texas’ Toni Hakula in fifth at 217. OU’s Beau Titsworth is sixth at 218. Talor Gooch and Zachary Olsen are the highest players for OSU, tied for 13th at 221.

NSU women in MIAA finals

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The No. 31-ranked Northeastern State women’s tennis team moved on to the finals of the 2014 MIAA Championship with a 5-1 victory over Emporia State Saturday afternoon at the Cooper Tennis Complex. The top-seeded RiverHawks (21-4) won their 16th-straight match and avenged an early-season loss to the No. 5-seeded Hornets (16-7). NSU will now face No. 2 seed Southwest Baptist at 9 a.m. today in the championship match.
