College football awards glance

• The Big 12 coaches team was named Wednesday. Among those named was Haskell High grad Tyler Johnson, named to the second team defense. The complete team follows,

• Pittsburgh’s Aaron Donald picked up another award Wednesday night, winning the Rotary Lombardi Award. Donald beat out Alabama linebacker C.J. Mosley, Missouri defensive end Michael Sam and UCLA linebacker Anthony Barr for the award given annually to the nation’s top college lineman. Donald won the Bronko Nagurski award given to the nation’s top college defensive player Monday.

Oklahoma center Gabe Ikard was named the 2013 Lee Roy Selmon Spirit Award winner by the Premier Players group in Tampa, Fla., Wednesday.

The award is given annually to the college football player who best represents the qualities of character that Selmon — the late OU All-American and NFL Hall of Famer — displayed with an emphasis on academic excellence and a commitment to community service.

The honorees are selected by members of Selmon’s immediate family, his wife Claybra, and sons, Lee Roy Jr. and Christopher.
