The stormy conditions of Friday morning wasn't the only commotion. Tommy Biffle of Wagoner’s five-bass limit of 16 pounds moved him into third place in the Mississippi River Rumble at LaCrosse, Wisc., trailing first-place Brandon Palaniuk of Rathdrum, Idaho.
Palaniuk’s bag — five smallmouth that went 19-3 — was more than enough for the 25-year-old pro to hold on tight to the top spot for the second consecutive day, holding off Aaron Martens of Leeds, Ala., and the hard-charging Biffle, who moved 11 spots up the list from 14th place after Thursday’s round. Martens caught 17-3 to stand at 31-7.
Fred Roumbanis of Bixby is seventh with 27-10 after a 13-6 catch Friday. Edwin Evers is the next Oklahoman in the hunt with 25-11. He’s 23rd overall. Park Hill’s Jason Christie missed the 50-angler cut, finishing 56th at 22-9. He caught just four bass on Friday.
The tourney continues through Sunday.
