Slowpitch softball

SEQUOYAH TOURNAMENT— Sequoyah will play Wyandotte for the championship and Oktaha will take on Muldrow for third place on Saturday after pool play outcomes Thursday.

Sequoyah went 3-1, losing to Broken Arrow 10-6 then beat Muldrow 10-5, Locust Grove 17-0 and Fort Gibson 18-4. Due to Broken Arrow’s schedule conflicts for Saturday, the Tigers will forfeit their spot in the finals to the Lady Indians (7-8). Four teams in all have conflicts and will sit out the rest of the tournament.

For the day, Marissa Smith and Hayleigh Galvin were both 7-for-9. Against Fort Gibson, Julie Scraper had two home runs, one a grand slam and the other a three-run shot. Mariah Hooper homered against Locust Grove and Smith blasted one against Broken Arrow.

Oktaha beat Stilwell as Kelsey Cantwell and Sierra Elam were both 3-for-3.  Oktaha lost to Wyandotte 13-12 and finished with a 14-4 win over Sallisaw. Callie Barnes and Kaylee Cagle were both 3-for-3 for the Lady Tigers (13-5).

Fort Gibson beat Locust Grove 8-0 behind Miranda Cherry, who was 3-for-4, and Kelsey Hornback (2-for-3). The Lady Tigers were beaten by Muldrow 9-1, Broken Arrow 7-1 and Sequoyah 17-5

Tahlequah was 3-0 in the tournament, beating Sallisaw 1-0, Wyandotte 11-1 and Stilwell 12-0, but will not return on Saturday.

Boys golf

OKMULGEE INVITATIONAL — Fort Gibson Tigers won their third straight tournament with an overall score of 317.  Dalton Rhoden shot a 3-over 75 and finished tied for first only to lose in a scorecard playoff. Wesley Jackson finished fourth after shooting a 77 and winning a scorecard playoff. Jordan London’s 76 was enough for a sixth-place finish.

Hilldale came in second overall as a team shooting 317. Chandler Puckett shot 77 to finish fifth, losing the scorecard playoff with Jackson.

The two teams will square off again in the Verdigris Valley Conference tournament at Shangri-La on Wednesday.
