Benefit race and auction for Porum couple

— A benefit barrel race and silent auction for Blazi Weippert and Justin McDaniel of Porum, who lost their home to a fire, is being held Saturday at the Checotah Round Up Club arena.

The silent auction will be held from 6-9 p.m. and has some great items donated such as a WW Livestock Team Roping Chute, tack, autographed pictures, hair on hide picture frames and much more.

The barrel race will have $700 added and will be a 4D with 1/2-second splits with a progressive payout. Cash only entry fee $25 plus a $5 benefit fee per rider. Office opens at 5 p.m., enter by 7 p.m., draw posted at 7:30 p.m. Exhibitions are $5 each and are from 6-7:45 p.m. Jackpot starts at 8 p.m.

The Muskogee RUC is beginning to wrap up its 4D barrel racing magnetic blanket award series. Last week’s winners were Toni Ferguson in the 1D and 2D, Rhonda Stewart won the 3D and Tammy Brown won the 4D.

Congratulations are in order for the high point winners at last Saturday’s team roping at the Rangeline Arena. High-point header was Hunter Woodward and high-point heeler was Dexter Morgan, winners of the Bonus cash. Team roping practice tonight and a jackpot will be held this Saturday. The Checotah Round Up Club arena continues to have its Summer Heat Series each Tuesday through Aug. 13. For the second straight week, Nydeary Fullbright won the 1D with a 15.943, Cheyenne Spencer won the 2D, Kath Heck won the 3D and Tammy Lawhorn won the 4D.

This barrel race is a 4D open with 1/2-second splits and juniors 3D with full second splits. Open entry fee is $20 with 80 percent payout. Junior entry fee is $10 with 100 percent payout. There will be a $5 one time, per person arena fee unless you are a member. Open arena, free ride will be from 5-5:45 p.m. Exhibitions from 6-7:45 p.m. Juniors will start at 8 p.m. with the open to follow. Its Stampede Rodeo time in Eufaula with three separate performances being held tonight, Friday and Saturday. Ward Rodeo Company will be the stock contractor for this rodeo with nightly performances starting at 8 p.m. This is an open and Cowboys Regional Rodeo Association (CRRA) sanctioned rodeo. Turley is having its Third Annual Sidney Reagor Living Legend Rodeo Saturday at the Turley Round Up Club arena. There will be over $3,500 added money. Gate admission is $5 (children 3-under are free). Contact Steve Reagor at (918) 724-5565.

Tuesdays at the Lightning B Arena is a 4D barrel race with $100 added to the open and $25 added to the pee wees and youth each. Oklahoma Cowgirls Association (OCA) is having a barrel race at Kellyville July 30. The race will be Better Barrel Race (BBR) sanctioned. Youth will be run with the open division, $15 entry fee 2D with whole second splits. The open entry fee will be $25 plus a $1 BBR fee when applicable, 4D, 1/2- and whole second splits. Leah Graber is back from the National High School Rodeo Finals in Rock Springs, Wyo., and represented Muskogee well.

Her first run on Trouble resulted in a fourth-place finish for that performance by running an 18.200. Her second run, she ran Phoenix and won the performance with a 17.689. She finished up 23rd overall, just shy of making it to the finals. Leah says she looks forward to going back next year with hopes of bringing the barrel racing title back with her.
