NSU’s Lewis draws honor
MARYVILLE, Mo. – Taylor Lewis was named to the 2012-13 Daktronics Central Region Women’s Basketball Second Team, the organization announced today.
The senior guard from Broken Arrow added another accolade to her already impressive resume, as she was also recently named the Co-MIAA Player of the Year.
The All-MIAA first team selection finished third in the league in scoring at 16.5 points per game and reached doubles figures in all but two games. She also averaged 18.1 ppg during league contests. She led the entire MIAA and finished seventh in the nation in free-throw percentage (.899), three-point field goal percentage (.423) and three-point field goals made per game (3.0).
Lewis led an NSU team that tied for second place in the MIAA in its inaugural season as members of the conference.
CONNORS SWEPT — At Warner, the Cowgirls (12-16) rallied to tie the opener at 4 in the sixth on an RBI double by Rikki Wooten and a run-scoring single by Mercedes Panky, but lost it in the seventh, falling 5-4. Carl Albert capped the sweep with a 15-6 win.
Jessica Christian (8-4) allowed six hits in the opener. Jerelyn Long (3-6) scattered 11 hits and surrendered three home runs in the second game. Connors plays Rose State on Saturday.
TULSA WINS — A six-run second pushed Tulsa (20-5) to an 8-1 win over Indiana State on Thursday in Tulsa. Three TU players smashed home runs against the Sycamores: Shelby Blanton hit a three-run shot, and Lacey Middlebrooks and Julie Kemen had solo jacks. Freshman Caitlin Sill (2-2) went the distance for the Golden Hurricane scattering six hits
Connors moves into baseball poll
Connors State (18-1) moved into the NJCAA top 20 in this week’s poll. The Cowboys are 19th, just ahead of New Mexico JC. Region II member Northeastern A&M is ninth and atop the poll is Chattahoochie Valley (Ga.), Cisco (Texas) and MIami (Fla.) Dade.
