LADY ROUGHERS TAKE SECOND – Muskogee played Class 4A No. 2-ranked Dale twice, including the finals of the Bethel Tournament, and lost both games including 18-14 in the title contest to the Lady Pirates.
In the finale, Shaylee Rowland had three hits, drove in four runs and homered. Aubrey Johnson had three hits and drove in two runs, while Paige Gann, Carlee Gann, Morgan Taylor and Brook Hendrickson, Jessi Venable and Derra Walker each had two hits.
In the other game against Dale, the Lady Roughers lost 12-7 as despite Rowland’s four hits including three doubles. Paige Gann and Emarthle combined for five hits, two home runs and five RBIs. Carlee Gann added two hits.
MHS also beat 5A No. 1 Purcell 20-15 with 29 hits. Rowland had four hits and four RBIs. Paige Gann had three hits and two RBIs, while Emarthle h ad four hits and four RBIs. Venable and Walker had three hits each. Hannah Alexander had four hits and Hendrickson added three.
Muskogee (11-5) returns home at 3 p.m. Tuesday in a doubleheader against Fort Gibson.
MHS coach Keith Coleman said Nia Maxwell was back home Friday night after getting hit in the eye with a ball during pregame warmups on Thursday.
“I’ve been texting her parents and they said the doctors said she was doing better (Friday) but there was still a lot of swelling,” Coleman said.
