Fort Gibson boys blank Victory Christian, move on to quarterfinals

TULSA — No. 4 Fort Gibson’s aggressive play had coach Todd Friend thrilled and his team moving on another round in the Class 4A playoffs with a 3-0 win over No. 7 Victory Christian  at Victory Christian High School Tuesday night.

Fort Gibson had 16 shots on goal 14 in the first half.

Levi Ford scored an unassisted goal with 26 minutes left in the first half and Zach Cobler found the back of the nets with six minutes left in the half. Austin Ford, Levi’s brother, assisted on the goal.

“We were on fire,” he said. “We just kept it going. We played with a lot of heart. We did well.”

Kade Rodgers, who scored the Tigers’ last goal, agreed.

“We came ready to play,” he said. “We knew they were going to come out and play us hard. We just played this game with passion.”

Improving to 10-2 for the season and 2-0 in the postseason with last Friday’s play-in win, the Tigers advance to the quarterfinals at Miami on Friday at a time to be determined. Miami beat Fort Gibson in a shootout on April 2.

“We’re going to be ready for Miami,” Rodgers said.
