Connors 87, Western 77 — At Altus and minus point-guard Hakeem Harris, who was nursing a sore ankle, Connors (22-7, 12-6) dropped its season finale in Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference action.
The Cowboys next go to the quarterfinals of the Region II Tournament on Wednesday at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee. The Cowboys will play the winner of Eastern Oklahoma State and Carl Albert State, who play Monday night in Wilburton.
Marcus Weatherspoon led the Cowboys with 23 points, followed by Willie Atwood’s 17 and Denell Henderson with 10. Josh Cameron, who played only the first half, finished with 10 points.
The Cowboys led 41-35 at the half, but fell behind the 51-point second half barrage of the Pioneers (18-11, 10-8) led by Dil’Jon Allen-Jordan’s 19 points.
Connors 91, Western 80 — Connors State Cowgirls placed four players in double digit scoring and raced to a 91-80 Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Western Oklahoma State Friday on the Lady Pioneers home floor.
The Cowgirls (16-13, 7-11) advance to the Region II play-in game Monday at Melvin Self Field House against Arkansas Baptist. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
Tiara Hall led the Cowgirls with 27 points with Shakayla Love pouring home 23 with Tonisha Dean adding 13 and Shakemia Franklin 12.
Connors held a commanding 51-32 lead at the intermission and held off the Lady Pioneers in the second half, as Ebony Nelms led the attack with 33 points.
WILEY 73, BACONE 58 – The Bacone Lady Warriors saw their season come to an end with an opening round loss to Wiley College in the Red River Athletic Conference tournament on Friday in Waxahachie, Texas.
Bacone (11-18) trailed Wiley by six at the half, 33-27, but saw the Wildcats pull away in the second half.
The Warriors (11-18) were led by Danielle Reed with 17 points while Emily Lovell had 13 points.
