PREVIEW: 4A No. 6 Poteau at No. 7 Fort Gibson

Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.

Radio: KPVR 92.5 FM

Records: Fort Gibson 4-1, 2-0 4A-4; Poteau 5-0, 2-0.

Last week: Fort Gibson 42, Broken Bow 7; Poteau 59, Stilwell 12.

Last meeting: Fort Gibson 49, Poteau 21 (2012).

About the matchup: Fort Gibson shouldn’t be surprised by anything the Poteau Pirates bring to Leo Donahue/Tiger Stadium on Friday. Their two main weapons from last season, quarterback Lace Pitchford and tailback Roger Barcheers “are very skilled at their positions,” said Tigers’ head coach James Singleton. “(Pitchford) is a great runner and thrower and (Barcheers) is deceptively fast.”

Last year’s game in Poteau turned on the final play of the first half when former Tiger Jake Gandara broke loose for a 90-yard touchdown, leading Fort Gibson to a 49-21 win. Singleton hopes his team could handle a momentum changing play should that happen to his squad.

“We’re kind of a veteran team and have a lot of kids back that have been in those types of situations,” he said. “It’s going to be a great environment Friday night. It’s our homecoming so we ought to have a big, big crowd.”

Series record: Poteau leads, 14-6.

Notes: Fort Gibson has won the last three meetings.
