HAYS, Kan. – The Northeastern State women’s soccer team registered its fourth-straight shutout with a 1-0 victory over Fort Hays State Sunday afternoon at FHSU Soccer Stadium.
The RiverHawks (10-2, 4-2 MIAA) have rebounded from a 0-2 start to third place in the standings with 12 points. NSU is just one point behind league leaders Lindenwood and Central Missouri. The Tigers (5-7-2, 1-4-2 MIAA) were coming off their first league win of the season.
NSU outshot the home side 14-8, while the more aggressive Tigers had a 14-7 advantage in fouls.
The game-winning strike came in the 21st minute as Jennifer Clark chipped the keeper and put away her MIAA-leading ninth goal of the season and fifth game winner.
True freshman goalkeeper Jordan Woodruff (10-2) made five saves and earned her sixth clean sheet of the season. She also has four-straight shutouts, and both feats are new school records.
Northeastern State will return home in an attempt to maintain its recent momentum. The squad will play host to Southwest Baptist at 7 p.m. Friday at DeLoache Field.
