Basketball roundup: Sequoyah grad hits milestone as KU whips OU

LAWRENCE, Kan.   — Carolyn Davis had 24 points and 10 rebounds and Sequoyah High grad Angel Goodrich became Kansas’ all-time assists leader as the Jayhawks defeated 22nd-ranked Oklahoma 81-71 on Sunday.

Goodrich had 17 points and 10 assists, giving her 687 career assists, one more than Lisa Braddy had from 1986-90.

Monica Engelman scored 21 points and Chelsea Gardner had 10 points and nine assists for the Jayhawks (16-8, 7-6 Big 12), who have won four of their last six games. Kansas led 34-22 at halftime and the lead in the second half never got below seven points.

Aaryn Ellenberg led the Sooners (18-7, 8-5) with 21 points. Joanna McFarland had 16 points and 15 rebounds for Oklahoma.

Nicole Griffin had 17 points and nine rebounds for the Sooners and Morgan Hook scored 11 points.

The all-time series between the schools is tied at 29 wins apiece.

Mayberry leads TU past Rice


TULSA— Taleya Mayberry scored 21 points and Tiffani Couisnard and Ashley Clark each had eight rebounds as Tulsa beat Rice, 49-45, on Sunday.

Kadan Brady added nine points and seven rebounds, while Couisnard contributed eight points.

Tulsa improves to 11-13 on the year, 6-5 in Conference USA, while Rice falls to 10-14, 2-9.

The Hurricane returns to action Thursday at SMU.

Arkansas knocks off Missouri

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas got 18 points from freshman Dominique Wilson and nine from sophomore Calli Berna as Arkansas beat Missouri 61-40 on Sunday.

It was the second win for Arkansas (17-8, 5-7 SEC)  over the Tigers since Missouri joined the SEC this season. Wilson became the first Arkansas freshman since 2006 to score at least 17 points in three consecutive games.
