Bacone splits in home soccer openers

The Bacone Lady Warriors opened the soccer regular season Tuesday at Love-Hatbox Sports Complex with a 3-1 victory over Friends University.

Tori Peterson got Bacone on the scoreboard first with a goal at the 43-minute mark. Leading 1-0 into the second half the Lady Warriors got goals from Shayla Beene off an assist by Mariah Canada and another from Demi Barai with Beene assisting.

Friends’ Emma Cuda scored in the 87th minute to nullify the shutout attempt.

For the game the Lady Warriors racked up 13 shots on goal to Friends’ seven. Goalkeeper Kyrie Stump notched six saves for Bacone.

On the men’s side the Falcons rushed out to a 2-0 lead at halftime and cruised to a 7-1 victory over Bacone.

The Warriors’ lone goal came from Diego Zavala with an assist by Greg Cawley in the 89th minute. For the game Bacone tallied three shots on goals with two saves from Erick Medina.

Both BC squads will travel to face Williams Baptist (Ark.) on Saturday.
