FGHS coach gets 499th career win

Lady Tigers roll as well; Wagoner splits in Oologah

Fort Gibson coach Gary Hendrix notched his 499th career victory Thursday as the Tigers downed Dewey 69-47 in a first-round game at the Oologah Tournament.

Two baskets by Jordon London gave the Tigers a 6-0 lead out of the gate. It was 20-10 at the end of the first quarter and 40-18 at the half — that being the final margin of victory.

Jordan Hill led the Tigers (8-2) with 19 points. London, who had 8 in the first quarter, had 17 for the game. Zach Lindley, who had half the Tigers’ first-quarter points, finished with 14.

Hendrix will go for 500 against the Claremore Sequoyah-Oologah winner at 8  tonight.

Brooke Palmer scored 21 points and Fort Gibson’s girls put it on cruise control, defeating Dewey 75-28 Thursday  in the first round of the Oologah Tournament.

The 4A No. 2 Lady Tigers led 29-14 after one quarter, fueled by five 3s — three by Taylor London. Then up 48-20, pitched a 21-0 shutout in the third though pulling back on the defensive clamps.

London finished with 12 points and CheyAnne Johnson had 11. Allie Glover and Jamie Hill had eight each. Fort Gibson (10-0) plays Catoosa at 3:30 p.m. today in one semifinal.

Wagoner, the other area team in the tournament, split on the evening.

The Wagoner Bulldogs won against Lincoln Christian 51-35. The leading scorer for the Bulldogs (3-8) was Byron Adams with 14 points. Lateze Clayton had 11 points. Jacob Adams, playing in his first game of the season due to a broken hand, had 10 rebounds and 7 blocks. Lincoln Christian  (4-8) was led by  Austin Jones with 13 points and also 13 rebounds. The Bulldogs continue tournament play at 5 p.m. against the winner of Inola and Catoosa.

Wagoner girls lost to 4A No. 11 Oologah 46-25. The Lady Bulldogs (0-11) held close through a half, trailing 26-20. Kristen Robbons led Wagoner with 9. The Lady Mustangs (9-2) were led by Brinley Evans with 16 points. The Lady Bulldogs play at 6:30 p.m. against the loser of Lincoln Christian and Claremore Sequoyah.
