Connors State uses the line to get past Eastern

WILBURTON — Connors State’s Kami Bunch and Tonisha Dean scored 17 and 15 points respectively but it wasn’t enough to overcome a 15-point deficit midway in the second half, as Eastern held off a late Cowgirls threat to take the OCAC win.

The Cowgirls fell to 10-7 for the year and 4-5 in league action, while Eastern State improves to 14-6 and 7-2. Connors will travel to Tishomingo to battle Murray State on Monday night. Tip-off is 6 p.m.

Connors, which held a two-point lead midway the first half 20-18, trailed at the half 33-25. The Lady Mountaineers stretched their lead to 15 points 61-46 at the seven-minute mark of the second half. The Cowgirls behind Bunch and Dean, sliced Eastern’s lead to three points 65-62. However, the Cowgirls could get no closer.

Shola Adeboyo led the Lady Mountaineers scoring with 18 points with Rodneisha Milum adding 16 points in the win.

Jarvis Christian 84,           Bacone 47

HAWKINS, Texas — The Lady Warriors trailed 27-24 at halftime before Jarvis Christian outscored Bacone 57-23 en route to the victory.

Bacone finished shooting 34 percent (18 of 52) but committed 30 turnovers; Kyna Lewis finished with nine points and 15 rebounds.

The Lady Warriors (4-12, 3-9) play Southwestern Assemblies of God on Saturday.  

ORU 77, Lamar 48

TULSA — Freshman Taylor Cooper led the way on the score sheet, with a career-high 20 points, while Sarah Shelton added her first career double-double, with 19 points and 12 rebounds.

Seniors got in on the act as well, with Jaci Bigham and Kevi Luper tallying 13 points each. Bigham added seven assists.

 The ORU defense was on point, holding Lamar (12-5, 5-2 Southland Conference) to 28.8 percent shooting. The Golden Eagles held Kalis Loyd, who entered the game averaging a league-best 18.8 points per game, to just 11 points. Dominique Edwards added 11 for the Lady Cardinals.

Tulsa 54,                           Central Florida 51

TULSA — Tiffani Couisnard scored the final three points of the game to give Tulsa a win over UCF at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.  TU moved to 7-11 on the season and 2-3 in Conference USA, while the Knights fell to 6-12 overall and 0-4 in the league.

Taleya Mayberry hit a team-best 22 points, while Kadan Brady scored 11 points.  Loren McDaniel pulled down 15 rebounds and had three assists, and Couisnard tallied seven points, 10 rebounds, four steals and three blocks in 31 minutes of play.

Arkansas 58, Missouri 50

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Senior Erin Gatling scored a career-best 23 points  for Arkansas (14-5, 2-4 SEC), hitting acareer-best six threes.  

Arkansas shot 36 percent for the game hitting 21-for-59 including eight three pointers in the win.  The Razorbacks were paced by Gatling with 23.  Keira Peak and Sarah Watkins had eight rebounds each in the balanced defensive effort.
