Friday's prep basketball roundup and Saturday's schedule

KIEFER TOURNAMENT — Hulbert beat Drumright 61-53 in the Dave Calvert Tournament at Kiefer with a 22-point fourth quarter.

Mason Fielden had 19 points for the Riders and Parker Taylor with 14. The Riders play Oaks at 1:30 p.m. today for the consolation title.

The Hulbert girls weren’t as fortunate, losing 44-22 to Ripley. The Lady Riders (11-6) had a bad shooting night finishing 9-of-38 for the game. Tiffany Thompson led the Lady Riders with 7 points

Hulbert plays for third place at 4 p.m. today against the loser of Kiefer and Kellyville.

TRI-STATE TOURNAMENT —  At Jay, Audrey Ballou had 14 points, Courtney Jones 11 and Loren Young 10 in Sequoyah’s 54-35 win over Jay on the girls side of the ledger.

Young added eight rebounds as the Lady Indians (11-5) rode 50 percent shooting to a 43-26 lead through three quarters before reserves finished the contest.

Sequoyah will face Kansas in tonight’s title game.

On the boys side, Sequoyah advanced to the title game with a 63-43 win over host Jay.

The Indians (11-5) raced out to a 44-22 lead at intermission and were never threatened in the second half. Caisen Green and Ryan Helsley led the way with 19 points each.

Sequoyah plays Kansas at 8:20 p.m. today.

JOHN NOBLES TOURNAMENT — The Tahlequah Tigers fell to Ponca City 70-57 on Friday.

The Tigers, who play for seventh place at 11:30 today, were led by Dalton Cunningham with 18 points while Lain Wright had 14 points and Jake Vader had 10 points.

The Tahlequah Lady Tigers beat Lawton 64-38, scoring 26 second-quarter points to lead 41-17 at the half. The Lady Tigers play at 1 p.m. against Ponca City for fifth place.

Alissa Hadley had 18 points on six 3s while Randee O’Donnell and Whitney Wright had 12 points each.

PORUM INVITATIONAL – The Midway Lady Chargers and Warner Lady Eagles both dropped their semifinal games at the Porum Invitational.

Midway (15-3) fell to Quinton 47-32 while Warner (5-9) dropped a 58-31 decision to Keota. Midway and Warner will meet in the third-place game at 4:20 p.m. today. Raven Girty led the Lady Eagles with 16 points.

The Porum Lady Panthers (7-6) beat the Gore Lady Pirates (0-13)  49-38 to advance to the fifth-place game.

The Lady Pirates cut the lead to 6 in the fourth but 9-10 free throw shooting from Porum put the game away.

Leading for  Gore was Fredee Phillips with 14 points also Peyton Thomas added 10 points. The seventh-place game will not take place due to Panola withdrawing while Porum plays McCurtain at 1:40 p.m. today.


– The Vian Wolverines trailed by three points at the half but could not keep the game close with Westville in Big Eight Conference action. Vian (5-7, 3-3) was led by Shawn Troutman’s 12 points.

The Wolverines return to the floor at 8 tonight when they play host to Keys.

BRAGGS 71, GANS 61 — The Wildcats pulled away for a River Valley Conference win over Gans. The Wildcats (9-11, 2-5) had Payton York scoring 32 points, Brodey Igert with 13 points and Blane Dunlap had 12 points.


The Lady Mustangs (7-8) defeated Choteau with excellent second-half defense. The Lady Mustangs held Chouteau to just seven points in the second half after the score at halftime was 15-15. Leading the Lady Mustangs were Bristen Graves and Courtney Smith, both with nine points.  

GANS 62, BRAGGS 39 —
The Lady Wildcats (5-16,1-7) fell in River Valley Conference play to Gans. Braggs trailed at halftime 28-18 and a scoring slump help Gans pull away.

Leading the Lady Wildcats were Hannah Mackey with 11 points and Cassi Harris with 10 points.
