The Bacone Warriors baseball team concluded their season-opening series with Friends University with a split of Sunday’s doubleheader at Warrior Field on Sunday.
After opening the season with a 22-7 win on Saturday, the Warriors (2-1) fell in the first game 5-2 in seven innings before storming back with a 10-3 win in the nightcap.
In Game One, Eric Folkers and Kyle Pietryga managed the only two hits off of Friends’ starter Matt Elliot, who went the distance while giving up one earned run while striking out four. Ricardo Barbosa and Will Simms scored Bacone’s runs while Barbosa and Pietryga drove in the runs.
In the nightcap, the Warriors fell behind in the top of the third 1-0 before scoring three in the bottom of the inning and added two runs in the fifth for all the advantage they would need. Jesse Fish tossed five innings and go the win, giving up no earned runs while striking out three.
Antonio Horn led the way for Bacone with a 3-for-3 game with two runs scored and four RBIs. Barbosa and Steven Smith each had two hits while Jean Ortiz scored two runs and Barbosa, Enrique Meza, Pietryga, Peter Rodriguez, Anthony Seabolt and Simms each scored once.
