Connors men still perfect; women fall

— WARNER – The Connors State men remained unbeaten with a 58-35 win over Murray State on Monday night at Melvin Self Field House in the Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both schools.

The Cowboys are now 7-0 for the season and 1-0 in OCAC play, while Murray State falls to 3-2 and 0-1.

Connors’ defense shut down the Aggies from the outset, racing to a 32-17 lead at the intermission. It was more of the same in the second half, limiting Murray to just 18 points in the final 20 minutes of action.

Denell Henderson led the Cowboys’ scoring with 13 points with Josh Cameron scoring 12 and Devante Moore adding 11.

Murray’s scoring was paced by Dusan Panatovic’s 12 points, the only Aggie to score in double figures.

Connors next plays in the Richland Classic this weekend, beginning with host Richland College on Friday and finishing with Paris Junior College on Saturday.

Women drop opener

The Connors State Cowgirls‘ four game winning streak was snapped on Monday at Melvin Self Field House as the Murray State Lady Aggies handed the Cowgirls a 68-52 loss in the Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both schools.

The Cowgirls are now 5-3 for the season and 0-1 in OCAC action while Murray State improves to 4-1 and 1-0.

Connors fell behind early and was unable to bounce back, trailing 32-17 at the break. Murray stretched its lead to 24 points battling back to within 12 midway the second half, coming no closer.

Raven Massey led the Cowgirls’ scoring with 14 points, while LaShanda Green led the Lady Aggies with 20. Kaylie Baxter added 12 points in the win.

The Cowgirls are off until 6 p.m. next Tuesday with a road game at Poteau against Carl Albert State College.
