Bacone men and women fall; Connors men roll

— SHREVEPORT, La. – An eight-point halftime lead by the LSU-Shreveport Pilots quickly swelled to 27 points over the Bacone Warriors in the second half as Bacone fell 88-68 on Monday.

For the game, the Warriors connected on 37 percent (23 of 61) and hit four of 23 three-point attempts while going 18 for 21 from the free-throw line.

Christian Smith led Bacone with 23 points while  Alex Stanley added 11 and Sean Cooper finished with 10.

The Warriors (2-7, 0-3) face Southwestern Assemblies of God Saturday at the Palmer Center.

On the women’s side, the Lady Pilots almost doubled-up the Lady Warriors with an 81-41 decision.

Bacone hit 30 percent (16 of 53) from the floor but went three for 17 from three-point range and committed 21 turnovers.

Shae Knabe led Bacone with eight points; the Lady Warriors (1-5, 0-3) take on Southwestern Assemblies of God at home on Saturday.

Connors 103, SW Christian JV 50

OKLAHOMA CITY – Connors State had no problem with Southwestern Christian University Junior Varsity on Monday, rolling to a 103-50 victory on the road.

The Cowboys improved to 11-1 for the season as six Connors State players scored in double figures. It was the second win of the season over Southwestern Christian. The Cowboys took an 87-65 victory on Nov. 5.

Sophomore guard Hakeem Harris led the Cowboys’ scoring assault with 21 points with Denell Henderson pouring home 16 points. Following in the scoring was Willie Atwood with 14, Quan Jones and Troy Jones with 13 points each while Jamarcus Weatherspoon scored 11.

The Cowboys cruised to a 52-24 advantage at the half and were never threatened the rest of the way.

Garriett Zollinger led Southwestern Christian scoring with 15 points.

Connors will return to action on Thursday night playing Hilldale Baptist College Junior Varsity at Melvin Self House closing out the first half of the season. Tip-off for the Hilldale game is 7 p.m.
