SALLISAW, Okla. (AP) — An Arkansas man critically injured in an early morning crash near Sallisaw has died.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says 33-year-old Damon Freeman of Little Rock, Ark., died early yesterday at a hospital in Fort Smith, Ark.
The patrol says Freeman was driving eastbound on Interstate 40 in Sequoyah County about 1 a.m. yesterday when his sport utility vehicle ran off the road, slammed into a guard rail and came to rest at the bottom of an overpass.
Troopers report Freeman managed to free himself from the wreckage. He was taken to Sparks Hospital in Fort Smith, where he died about 5:40 a.m.
The patrol says Freeman was not wearing a seat belt.
