EDMOND, Okla. (AP) — The University of Central Oklahoma is the latest state school to pledge that it won't seek an increase in tuition for the 2009-10 academic year.
UCO Executive Vice President Steve Kreidler said Tuesday the university has made a focused effort in recent months to implement cost-saving practices.
He says that effort combined with sufficient appropriations for higher education by the state Legislature means UCO won't need to raise tuition. The Edmond school now charges $122.70 per academic hour in tuition for in-state undergraduate students.
At least four other state schools have made similar pledges — the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University, Southwestern Oklahoma State University and Northwestern Oklahoma State University.
UCO is the third-largest four-year university in Oklahoma.
