Police: Fleeing teen driver shot by OKC officer

Associated Press

— OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma City police say an officer shot and critically wounded an 18-year-old after the teenager jumped out of a car that police were pursuing.

Police say the incident happened about 9:40 p.m. Sunday when gang unit officers tried to pull over a car that was moving erratically. Capt. Dexter Nelson says the car sped away and three men then jumped out of the moving vehicle.

Nelson says the teenager reportedly had a gun in his hand as he ran from the car and that Sgt. John Baker shot him when the teen turned toward the officer with the weapon.

Nelson says the teen is hospitalized in critical condition and police are still trying to identify him.

Baker has been placed on administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.
