Woman found dead after OKC standoff identified

Associated Press

— OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Police say the woman found dead following a standoff that took more than 11 hours  was the mother of the man who held police at bay.

Police said Thursday that the victim was Janet Kay Hume, 77, and that her body was sent to the state medical examiner to determine the cause of death.

Hume's body was found early Tuesday following the standoff with Gerald Dale Hume, 52, at the Hume home. Gerald Hume was arrested on complaints of first-degree murder and weapons offenses. Police did not know whether he had an attorney.

The standoff began Monday when police arrived with a search warrant to conduct a welfare check on Janet Hume. Gerald Hume had refused three times earlier to allow officers into the home to check on his mother.
