Police chiefs in Norman for summit

— NORMAN (AP) — Police chiefs from across the nation will be in Norman for the next few days for the 2013 Benchmark Cities Summit.

The three-day summit is being hosted by the Broken Arrow, Edmond and Norman police departments.

It kicked off on Sunday and will end on Tuesday.

About 60 police chiefs and administrators from 26 cities and 14 states are scheduled to attend.

The summit was created in 1996 by police officials in Overland Park, Kan., as a way to share demographics, crime rates and other law enforcement information with a goal of helping police agencies improve the overall delivery of services to citizens.

Today, the police chiefs and police administrators share a variety of information on crime, traffic, department organization and administration at the summit.

The summit takes place in a different city each year.
