Mental evaluation ordered for suspect in Haskell County cold case

— STIGLER (AP) — A judge has ordered a mental evaluation for a man charged in the 1987 shooting death of a former Haskell County commissioner.

Clifford Eagle was due in court Thursday for a preliminary hearing, but proceedings were pushed back to allow time for the evaluation. Eagle was charged last year with first-degree murder in the death of Leo Reasnor.

Attorneys toldl The Oklahoman that both sides agreed to the mental health evaluation for Eagle.

Reasnor was found dead inside his pickup on June 25, 1987. Authorities say he'd been shot in the head.

Eagle was arrested last year after he walked into a police station in Montana and reportedly confessed to the killing. Eagle has said since that the confession was coerced and that he wasn't involved in Reasnor's death.
