US suing Tulsa restaurant chain over unpaid wages

Associated Press

— TULSA (AP) — The Department of Labor is suing a Tulsa-area restaurant chain over $1 million in unpaid wages that it claims the business owes to more than 220 kitchen and wait staff, hosts and bussers.

The lawsuit was filed this week in Tulsa federal court. It claims El Tequila LLC, a Mexican restaurant chain with four locations, violated the law by not paying overtime and minimum wages and not keeping proper records.

It claims some employees who worked as many as 72 hours in a week were paid a fixed salary without overtime for hours beyond 40.

The lawsuit also names the restaurant chain's owner, Carlos Aguirre. A manager at one of the locations said Aguirre was out of town and unavailable for comment. It was not immediately clear whether Aguirre had an attorney.
