Okla. officials move to dismiss Youth Expo lawsuit

— OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma's treasurer and secretary of state have filed motions to dismiss a lawsuit that challenges the appropriation of $2 million in public funds to a private, non-profit livestock show.

State Treasurer Ken Miller and Secretary of State Glenn Coffee filed motions in Oklahoma County District Court to dismiss the lawsuit filed by state Reps. Mike Reynolds of Oklahoma City and Mike Ritze of Broken Arrow. A separate motion was filed by Carol McFarland, interim director of the Office of Management and Enterprise Services.

The lawsuit alleges that the appropriation to the Oklahoma Youth Expo livestock show is an inappropriate use of taxpayer money and is unconstitutional.

The state officials claim in their motions they are immune from the lawsuit and are not proper defendants.

A hearing is scheduled Nov. 29.
