Clown gets seven years in prison for child porn

FORT SMITH, Ark. (AP) — A federal judge on Thursday sentenced a performer who worked with children under the name “Sondance the Clown” to more than seven years in prison for receiving child pornography.

U.S. District Judge P.K. Holmes III included 10 years of supervised release to follow Thomas Harold Morgan’s prison term of seven years and three months.

Court records show investigators learned that a computer owned by Morgan was being used to download child pornography through a file-sharing network. Police said they found an image of a minor engaged in sexual conduct after seizing computers and hard drives from Morgan’s home.

U.S. Attorney Conner Eldridge said it was particularly important to pursue charges against Morgan because he used his clown act to seek the company of children.

“To victimize innocent children is both horrendous and inexcusable and is especially disturbing considering that this individual sought opportunities in which he could be around kids by posing as a clown,” Eldridge said.
