Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man on Father’s Day.
Police were called to The Pines Apartments at 3010 Denver at 12:11 p.m. Sunday. Deputy Chief Chad Farmer said police found one man who was deceased in Apartment 8. There were no other fatalities or injuries at the scene, he said.
Cpl. Michael Mahan said police had yet to identify the victim.
Rose Johnson lives in the apartment next to the one where the shooting happened. She said she was in her bedroom when she heard a large crash, like glass breaking.
“It sounded like somebody came through the ceiling,” she said.
When Johnson heard the noise, she and others began looking around the apartment for broken glass, she said.
Johnson found a bullet hole in the front room of her apartment, and pictures had fallen from a wall near the kitchen table, she said.
“So we came out, and then when we came out and was looking around to see what was going on, because I thought somebody have gotten into a fight with somebody else out here,” she said.
The tenant of Apartment 8 said “he was wanting me to see the man that had got shot,” Johnson said. “All I could see was blood, all over the floor."
The tenant of Apartment 8 told her that he had been away and had just returned, and that “he didn’t know nothing about it,” she said.
Johnson said she didn’t know the man who was shot.
The tenant locked the apartment, and Johnson said she believes he then called 911.
Johnson has lived in the apartment building for about a year and a half.
Mahan stated in a release that “the only information available at this time is a possible suspect vehicle that left the scene shortly after the shooting took place. It is described only a darker colored, four-door car.”
“At this time we do not have an identity on the victim,” he said.
