TAHLEQUAH — The Cherokee Nation will host a colon cancer awareness presentation from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, at the Tribal Council Chambers, located in the Cherokee Nation tribal complex south of Tahlequah.

The event is being sponsored by the Cherokee Nation Comprehensive Cancer Control Program, a collaborative process through which a community and its partners pool resources to promote cancer prevention, improve cancer detection, increase access to health and social services, and reduce the burden of cancer.

Information will be provided on how colon cancer begins, how it can be prevented and what foods can help fight the disease. Presentations will include: A Survivor’s Story, ABCs of Colon Cancer and Colon Cancer Prevention. Speakers include cancer survivor Barbara Neal and Ruth Hummingbird, project coordinator for Cherokee Nation cancer programs.
