Avyn Litigation and Mediation Services is inviting the public to celebrate the opening of the nonprofit legal agency’s new downtown location.

Muskogee lawyer Corrine O’Day serves as president of the nonprofit corporation’s board of directors and staff attorney. O’Day said Avyn offers sliding scale legal services to civil rights plaintiffs and criminal defendants who don’t qualify for representation from a public defender.

“Avyn's mission is to remove many of the barriers to litigation,” O’Day said.

O’Day said Avyn also coordinates Muskogee’s Pro Bono Project for which local lawyers agree to provide free legal services in exchange for an eligible clients’ promise to work in the community hour for hour.

The open house, O’Day said, will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday at 221 W. Broadway.
