Taylor Mills

WAGONER — Taylor Mills and Hilldale High School’s softball team are hot right now.

The freshman pitcher struck out 19 batters in two games as the Lady Hornets extended their winning streak to seven games as they won both games in a three-way Monday, beating Haskell 8-1 and Wagoner 12-1, at Wagoner’s diamond.

Mills (15-3) increased her season strikeout total to 158. She also has nine one-hitters for the season.

“She’s pitching well but the defense is playing well behind her and that helps,” Hilldale coach Cara Christensen said. “We’re working as a unit. The team unity is good right now.”

In beating Haskell, Brittany Cantrell had a two-run double in the eight-run sixth inning. Leah Coons tripled and singled in the inning.

Paige Boling had three hits, while Cassidi Watkins and Taylor Mills each had two hits in the win over Wagoner. Mills drove in four runs, while Becca Bargsten and Jordan Stinson each drove in two.

Hilldale (15-3) plays another three-way today at Inola. It plays Oologah at 5 p.m. and Inola at 6:30.
