A Tahlequah man will appear in court today for the first time after his arrest for allegedly sexually abusing two girls multiple times.
Juan Juarez Jr., 55, was charged last week with nine counts of child sexual abuse. One of the girls he is charged with abusing told Tahlequah police investigators that Juarez touched her about 30 or 40 times while he thought she was sleeping.
The other girl told a similar story. She said the abuse happened a couple of times each week for an “unknown period” of time.
Juarez gave a statement to police in which he admitted to touching the girls and said he told them he would stop doing it and asked them for forgiveness.
A probable cause affidavit in the case states that Juarez told police he had begun touching the girls five years earlier, when “they were around 9 years old.”
Juarez told police that after the girls’ mother found out, he was no longer allowed at the house for two weeks. When he was allowed to visit again, he was able to stop himself from touching the girls, he said in his statement. Both girls said Juarez had stopped the inappropriate touching.
Juarez is in the Cherokee County Detention Center on $75,000 bond. His initial appearance is set for 1 p.m. today.
