VIAN — A Midwest City woman was critically injured Tuesday after losing control of the pickup she was driving 1 1/2 miles east of Vian on Interstate 40.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Rebecca N. Bowers, 55, was transported by helicopter to Saint John Medical Center in Tulsa, where she was treated for lacerations and arm injuries. A passenger refused treatment for minor injuries at the scene.

Bowers, the OHP report states, was westbound when the pickup she was driving struck some debris on the highway. The left rear wheel came off the 2003 Dodge 1500 pickup, causing the vehicle to veer across the highway and roll onto its top before sliding onto the center median.

Bowers was pinned inside the pickup for about 45 minutes before she was freed by rescue workers. Seat belts were in use by both occupants, and the air bag deployed on the driver’s side of the pickup.
