Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers recovered a drowning victim Sunday afternoon in Fort Gibson Lake after he jumped in the water Saturday and never resurfaced, according to a media release from the OHP.
Troopers found David Villicana-Lopez, 38, of Tulsa at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday in 11 feet of water in Paradise Cove after a search that began Saturday evening. Villicana-Lopez had jumped from a stationary vessel and struggled to stay above the water, according to the release.
A witness tried to save Villicana-Lopez but was unsuccessful, the release states. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical examiner and transported to the Oklahoma Office of the Medical Examiner.
