Jerri Holder and Terri Coleman brainstormed about could be done to bring people to Checotah and know about the businesses here. Thus, the Business Expo was born six years ago.
"Terri and I worked in the health field and did a lot of expos throughout the years, so we thought it would be a really neat idea to have one here in Checotah," said Holder, the office manager at the Checotah Chamber of Commerce. "We wanted to showcase Checotah businesses and invite people from other towns to see what Checotah has to offer."
This year's expo, sponsored by North Shore Real Estate, is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Checotah Community Center, 611 N. Broadway.
A year ago, 31 businesses attended the expo.
"For a little town like Checotah, that was pretty good," Holder said.
Holder looks forward to another successful expo, which will have free admission in late September.
"It's for all ages for people to walk through," Holder said. "We're very fortunate to have all kinds of giveaways that day. Different business will have different goodies at their tables. I even heard a little birdie say that one business will be giving away ice cream. We're going to have door prizes, free food and drinks."
The free food will include hot dogs, chips, soft drinks, water, fresh fruit and vegetables.
"We're going to have a little variety," Holder said.
The first 100 people who attend the expo will receive a sack of promotional items from area businesses.
"This (expo) is one of the biggest things we have here," Holder said. "We really like to push people to shop local. We're proud of our community and the businesses here.
"We're fortunate, because we think Checotah has a wonderful group of businesses here that you can find about anything you need here."
