CASA for Children will host a Coffee with CASA informational session from 10-11 a.m. Friday for prospective volunteers to learn more about the program and the volunteer role.
The information session, which will take place at The Break, 310 S. Third St., is expected to give those in attendance a better view of the work being performed by CASA volunteers ahead of their upcoming fall training session.
Because court proceedings are closed and case files are typically sealed, prospective advocates are often unfamiliar with what it means to be a CASA volunteer and the role of a volunteer once they have completed training.
“There is often an air of mystery surrounding CASA,” said Jenny Crosby, training and outreach specialist. “We want to make sure that people have a really good understanding of what they’re going to be doing when they join our team.”
The session is expected to include an overview of the CASA program, the training process, and the roles and responsibilities of a CASA volunteer.
“You don’t have to be a social worker, doctor, teacher, or lawyer to make a difference in a child’s life,” said Crosby. “You simply have to be 21 or older with a heart for children.”
