A candidate for Fort Gibson Board of Education is contesting his opponent's eligibility for the upcoming election.
Joshua Young, candidate for Fort Gibson, Office 5, filed a petition Friday with the Muskogee County Election Board, challenging the candidacy of Darren Kilpatrick, who presently occupies that post.
A hearing is scheduled at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Muskogee County Board of Commissioners' meeting room. The room is located in the basement of the County Services Building, 400 W. Broadway.
"I am questioning his eligibility to run based on the statutory residency requirements," Young states in his petition. "I believe that he resides outside of the school district."
Kilpatrick, according to his declaration of candidacy, resides at 1946 E. U.S. 62. An Oklahoma Data Warehouse map shows the address lies within the district's boundaries, but the map does not depict boundaries for the district's zones.
Kilpatrick has held Fort Gibson's Office 5 seat since at least 2009.
Neither Young nor Kilpatrick could be reached for comment.
