Several new Fort Gibson Schools staff members may seem familiar to people returning to class on Thursday.

Several attended Fort Gibson schools themselves.

For example, Dee Dee Landers, the new Early Learning Center secretary, is a 1996 graduate of Fort Gibson High School. She has worked for Fort Gibson Schools for about two years.

"I look forward to getting to see all the students I haven't seen all summer," Landers said. "I was Miss Cathy's workroom assistant."

Landers was referring to Cathy Fryar, who retired in June after 27 years as the ELC secretary.

"She will be so missed," Landers said, adding that Fryar taught her patience.

"And just to be kind in everything you do," she said.

Landers and her family spent part of the summer putting fresh touches on the ELC's front office. She said she and her daughter, Brooklin, put up wall decorations including a Dr. Seuss quote, "Oh the places you'll go!", and a baby tiger.

Fort Gibson Schools also hired another Fort Gibson graduate, Jennifer Miller-Parker, as the new district nurse.

Superintendent Derald Glover said Parker, a registered nurse, "will observe the district policies on dispensing medications and handling any kind of health issues that come up."

Parker said she's happy to work "in the community I grew up in."

She said she'll work districtwide, "seeing to the health needs of the students."

Parker also will take care of screening students' vision and hearing.

Glover said the district hired 13 new certified staff members and 10 support staff members for the 2015 school year. Certified staff members took part in a training session Friday at the administration building.
