Are you the best baker in town? Can you eat a lot of pie?

If you fit either of these descriptions, you are invited to join the fun at the Muskogee Regional Fair.

Fresh Start Nutrition and You from the OSU Cooperative Extension Service will sponsor a pie-baking contest and pie-eating contest on Friday. The rules:

Pie Baking Contest

• You must not be a professional baker or chef.

• You may enter 1 pie per category: Fruit pies, Cream pies, Pecan pies and Miscellaneous.

• Pies must be in disposable containers and in a clear plastic bag.

• Pies will become the property of the Fresh Start Nutrition Program.

• Pies must be made from scratch. No store-bought or ready-made pie shells, dough, fillings or toppings. Whipping cream may be used, but Cool Whip is not allowed.

• You must turn in the recipe used on a 3 by 5 or 4 by 6 index card without your name on it.

• Pies can be turned in from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the OSU Cooperative Extension Office at the fairgrounds.

• You do not have to be present to win.

• Decisions of the judges are final.

Three prizes will be awarded in each category. A Grand Prize will be chosen from the first-place winners in each category. A Kitchen Aid mixer will be given as grand prize.

Judging will start at 6:30 p.m., but contestants will not be allowed in the judging area.

Pie Eating Contest

• There will be a $5 entry fee.

• Winners will be determined by the contestants who eat the most slices of pie in 8 minutes. Pies will be pre-sliced.

• Prizes will be cash awards as follows: first prize, 50 percent of total entry fee; second, 30 percent of total entry fee; third place, 20 percent of total entry fee.

• You may enter contest beginning at 5 p.m.

• Contest will start immediately after judging of the pie baking contest.
