The Oklahoma National Guard Public Affairs Office is hosting a departure ceremony for approximately 100 Oklahoma Army National Guardsmen with Bravo Company, 834th Aviation Support Battalion for their nearly yearlong deployment in support of Operation Inherent Resolve.
The ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. Sunday at the Army Aviation Support Facility 2, located at 4220 N. Mingo Valley Expressway in Tulsa.
While deployed, the soldiers will provide field-level aviation maintenance support to a brigade-sized Army aviation element throughout Kuwait and Iraq.
In order to meet the requirements of their mission, the unit will manage aircraft maintenance as part of a team that is tasked with providing fully mission capable aircraft to the aviation commander, a key component of the ground commander’s ability to project lethal force and improve combat power.
The soldiers spent the last few weeks at Camp Gruber Training Center conducting pre-mobilization training where they focused on a multitude of individual and unit-level tasks. The training was overseen by qualified teams specifically geared toward deploying units, and required each soldier and the unit as a whole to pass each task before clearing them for their next step.
From here, the soldiers will move onto Fort Hood, Texas, where they will conduct their post-mobilization training prior to heading overseas later this year.
