NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — A court date for former Major League Baseball pitcher Dwight Gooden has been postponed.

The former Cy Young award winner was scheduled in Newark's municipal court Tuesday on a drunken driving charge.

Gooden was stopped in Newark last month after allegedly driving the wrong way on a one-way street.

Gooden's attorney tells The Associated Press discussions with prosecutors are ongoing.

Gooden's attorneys are also talking with prosecutors in Monmouth County, New Jersey about drug charges stemming from a traffic stop in July.

Attorney William Petrillo says Gooden is doing well and "deeply appreciative of the outpouring of love and support he has received from so many people."

Gooden was suspended from baseball for part of the 1994 season and all of the 1995 season after testing positive for cocaine.
